Bad Credit Mortgages

Why Bankruptcy Shouldn’t Stop You From Refinancing Your Mortgage

Bankruptcy isn’t the scarlet letter that most people think it is. Borrowers who have bankruptcies on their record apply for and get approved for loans every single day. If you have been letting a bankruptcy stop you from refinancing your Minnesota mortgage, here are three things you need to know:

Lenders are Understanding
Mortgage lenders aren’t monsters. They work with money and finances on a daily basis and understand that things like credit problems and bankruptcies happen to good people. There are many lenders out there who will be willing to handle your Minnesota mortgage refinance regardless of when or why your bankruptcy was filed. The key is to find a lender who is familiar with your circumstances. These lenders will prove to be the most competent in your search for a post-bankruptcy Minnesota mortgage refinance.

Sub-Prime Borrowing Isn’t a Bad Thing
Because of a few bad apples, sub-prime lenders who specialize in lending money to borrowers with bankruptcies and bad credit have been given a bad name. But borrowing from a sub-prime lender is actually quite common in Minnesota. So common that Minnesota has enacted several laws to protect sub-prime borrowers from lenders who are seeking to perpetrate scams. If you are worried that sub-prime borrowing means paying outrageous rates and fees, you can rest assured that you will get a fair deal from a good lender.

Getting Approved is Easy
If you want to refinance your Minnesota mortgage after bankruptcy, you shouldn’t have much of a problem getting approved for the loan. After all, you already have a mortgage. All you will be doing is replacing this mortgage with a new one. The main thing you will have to prove to the lender is that you can afford the monthly mortgage payment.
